Alternative christening present

Has anyone any suggestions for an alternative christening present? (I've thought of a star / tree) The family are youngish (25/27) but very traditional, I'm a mate of the mother, but would prefer not to do the normal thing - sliver, collectables...

Its a baby boy with a welsh name, just under a year old and I imagine has a lot of things!

The Royal Mint do a presentation gift of all the coins at present in circulation. My aunt bought both my sons a set for their christenings, and has sent them updated ones on every birthday since. Now aged 18 and 15 it's nice to look back at them and see how the coins have changed over the years!

for my god daughters christaning i got her a star it is now named after her you get a map showing you which star is yours and some of the money gos to great ormond street hospital they cost around �30

Thanks for all your suggestions.... keep them coming! Why are some people difficult to buy for? I want to make it nice, but I also don't want to just buy something which the mother wants her child to collect, and as I'm a quirky person it'd be good to get something along those lines

I ve just been searching for a christening gift and decided on this. you get to personalise a certificate (and comes with gift pack) marking the occasion and saying what has been bought, 1/2 acre of rainforest etc. Min £25, and it's amazing what rubbish you can buy for £25!!
