a friend of mine is always trying to get a hierarchy by boasting about what she has got.
Her husband bought her when they were NY a handbag from 'bloomingdales' or blooming expensive. Anyway is cost hundreds. I look at it and think why is someone so proud or a boring basic design object with the Luncheon Voucher sign on it LV. Dont think its even made of leather, and she is already has had to have it repaired. Why oh way do people think they have to impress all the time.

I didn't know that Louis Vuitton sold luncheon vouchers ;-)

Actually, while I've got no time for designer labels (per se) I do appreciate good design. Being a fella', it's unusual for any women's fashion to particularly take my eye, but do I quite like the styling of many Louis Vuitton bags.
Don't know...handbags are not my thing so the thought of spending hundreds on them baffles me...

I do wear general labels though....
I think its a snob value, so whats in a name? As long as it does the job why why worry.
I think it's snobbery, too.

Had realised what LV stood for, just being sarcastic. Her bag is the most boring design , even if you take the Lv's of it. Same with any thing with designer logos smothering it. No problem with more descreet logos tucked away somewhere. But allover why, why why, other than to brag
For me it depends. I do like expensive things, i have real uggs and dior, miumiu and ralph sunglasses....however id wear primark, asda tesco and have done!

So i think if i like it i like it regardless. I do have to reign myself in , xx
I'm a Jones, so I don't worry 'cos everyone has to keep up with me! LOL

\perhaps you should have your own designer brand. Can just see it now. Plastered with 'Keep up with the Joneses'
What I like about the more expensive shops are..

1) They're quieter
2) They are laid out better
3) You don't have to go through loads of tat to find something nice
4) They have shop assistants that actually help and advise

Saying all that...My favourite shop is Two Seasons :-)
I agree most nicer things are averaged priced! X

Tinkerbell, bet the labelling is more descreet though
Hmmm now that's a thought Sally. Watch out Karl Lagerfeld!

Mmmmm is that the whiff of new perfume I smell 'eau de horseshoes' LOl
LOL
I love labels. Primani and Florence & Fred are my favourites.
all mine are hand made by some bloke called george.
IMO it is a type of snobbery, I can't believe people are silly enough to pay out hundreds of pounds just for a label.....it's only for effect isn't it...if they didn't flaunt it what's the use of paying extortionate prices when something half the price would do the job or look just as nice? No, it's all done for showing off and what most designer label followers don't realise, they are contributing to the coffers of the rich again....instead of saving their money for themselves. Guess I'm the odd bod out in this "look at me" world.....

I'll let you in on a not well kept secret but still one most westerners do not know - many of these handbag brands are actually made in Korea. If you head to Seoul and their Insadong district yopu will find many small shops selling counterfeits.

Fear not, enter and go through to the very back, often behind curtains and you will find the realy McCoys going at bargain prices - what happens (and I am making the numbers up) is that Chanel will order 500 bags, they make 550 to cover quality checking and 500 are sent and 50 quietly dispatched. Are they seconds, often not as the quality of manufacturing is so good.

Its a few years now, but I bought for Xmas my mother, three sisters, wife, and her mother large Chanel bags plus the padded blue purses etc and spent, if I remember under $600 for the whole lot.
I'll let you into another secret.. my friend's son was taken to a warehouse in London to look at some shirts. they were made in the same place and some were identical, but some had Asda labels and some had Next labels.. the very same shirts.

anyway, I like good quality stuff, but don't like labels/logos on display.
my friend worked as an importer for fcuk. they bought a shirt for 20p from india or somewhere and put it in the shop for £45. that was in the 80s, i'm sure things have changed ........
