How to fit fitted wardrobes

Hi all, just a quick question, i have ordered some Cooke & Lewis fitted wardrobes and although im pretty handy with most things, im not sure about a few things. Should i fit the wardrobes on top of the carpet? And finally, is it ok to fit the wardrobes onto a partition wall?

I guess if you fit them on top of the carpet, then it gives you the option to move them again. It will cause the units to wobble around a bit when they're loaded. To stabilise the lot, I usually screw the units to each other and to the wall. Certainly fit them to a partition wall, no problem.

I've fitted several lots of fitted robes and have always removed the carpet first.If you decide that you want to change the carpet at a later date you'd be stuck if you hadn't removed the carpet. Not only that, but a wooden/concrete floor gives a much more stable base.Get yourself a "Stud/Pipe/Cable finder" and then you can fix them to the studs for stability.

Mine are fitted over the carpet and I was worried about replacing the carpet however I am now having a new carpet fitted and they said all they will do is run a stanley knife along then fit the new one just under the runners.

Thanks for the feedback guys, at the moment i don't have any carpet fitted as we have totally redecorated the room but my thought was to get the carpet fitter in before i put the wardrobes in. I seem to be getting mixed views on what i should do, but i will add that these are over-bed units so i will be able to screw the lot together so should be quite stable if i do fit them on top of the carpet. The floor is chipboard and i have already marked the boards to show pipes, cables and joists. So can anyone just add to whats best to do here?

I don't think there is a "best" answer here. Personally I would fit the carpet after the units as this would mean you're not assembling and working on top of a new carpet and eliminating the possibility of damage.

Do you mean they are just over the bed cupboards or are there tall bedside cupboards with "Bridging" units in between ??

Hi guys, and thanks for all the replies. I am fitting 2 single wardrobes, 2 bed side cabinets and 3 double over bed units (or bridging units). I think i will get the carpet fitter in after we have put the fitted wardrobes up, i think it will give a much more stable base. The wardrobes are being delivered on Thursday, and my Dad is coming over Saturday to help install so hopefully all will go well. Will keep you posted.
