Washing machine question
7 Answers
Hi can anyone on here answer this question?
I have a washing machine which just has the cold fill My husband wonders if he could connect the hot water pipe to this and fill it with hot water (we have constant hot water and didn't realise when we were buying the machine that it wasn't a twin fill) We just wondered if using the hot water to fill would cause any damage
Grateful for any advice

But you need to try it and make sure the pressure switches operate ok .. If you do not use mains on the inlet, you may be connecting to a lot lower 'head' of pressure .. so just try it. What about rinsing tho? Hot rinse is not so good!?
I force mine to fill with hot 90C, then completely restart the program on cool 30C .. so I always use my stored hot water on every wash.. and do not use power heating the water to 40C.

As your machine only takes water through the one line, the water taken in will either always be cold (when cold is connected) or hot (if hot connected). As already pointed out if connected only to hot then every intake will be hot, including all the rinses and any fabric conditioner. Also, the intake will be at the temperature of the incoming water, i.e. say 60 or more, which may ruin certain articles. A way out would be to arrange a twin connection with a manual switchover. Washes usually only involve heating (or taking in hot) on the very first fill. If you have a switchover then you would set it to hot intake immediately on starting the cycle (load being suitable) and once it is full just switch over to cold and let the machine complete the cycle automatically.
