Designer goods.......... Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
31 Answers
Most people can't tell a fake from the real thing, designer handbags, shoes jewelry etc.
Now I would never be able to afford a £10.000 Louis V handbag, but I'd be able to afford a £10 fake one. But if I buy a £10 fake LV bag I will be accused of supporting criminals. I think the real criminals are the ones that sell at £10.000.
would you be able to tell the difference between a genuine and a fake?

I was once in a factory in Xiamen with Coca Cola cans coming off one line and the counterfeits on the other lines, that brazen.
Also, there is no way I would buy a watch in Thailand - cheap counterfeit copies that work for a few weeks at best......but folk buy them.

true - I sourced a whole batch (of cheap Chinese watches @$1.50 a piece) with stop-watches built in, neoprene straps, for a promotion in HK and they worked really well - won a bet for dinner at the Grill in the Mandarin from a colleague of mind who thought they were tat and would stop within a month. We had to go back and place a second order as the products cleared off the shelf, partly as no one had done a promotion with an industrial product before out there.....
easily - last time I was in the market a good quality diamond (not top), I was quoted £2500 a carat. Bought it in the Far East from a Tiffany wholesale supplier at $990 a carat (no difference in quality or diamond size)- he said that allowed a 10% mark-up over cost at the time.
By the way a small tip, always buy just under what you want - so for 1 carat buy 0.95, 1.5 carats 1.45, 0.5 carats - go for 0.475.....there is a huge price up as you go through the major "levels" - easily a 30% saving.

i do not own a single name brand item of attire - and never would...if i came to own one somehow, such as a gift, i would most likely cover the name with something...
the whole name brand thing makes me sick - i like clothes etc because quite simply i like them...not because its the fashion or its expensive...the whole thing is vapid and shameful.
and as for quality...well just because someone has put a massive price tag on something, does not mean it has been made with anymore care or effort than a cheaper item...
they know that the higher their tag the more people with lots of will buy it thinking "oh well it must be good then"
ive lost count of the items i have that have been cheap and lasted years and been an utter surprise and bargain and the more expensive stuff ends up broken...
also most of my jewellery is metal or silver and not expensive... some may be antique or so but most i have ever spent was about £35 because i utterly fell in love with a turquoise and coral silver pendant...
...some people know the price of everything - and the value of nothing...
