I was about to proceed with an order with Amazon for around £100 for a few items to be delivered to Ireland with so called super save delivery but when i saw the delivery charge £22 i immediately cancelled my order. I noticed also when you are on the last page of ordering there is NO cancel button, so you have to go back on your browser to previous page in order to cancel your order. I have ordered from Amazon before and found them ok but this delivery charge is a rip off.

I also think it's a bit naughty of them when you have to actually specify that you want free delivery. The default when you do nothing is a paid for delivery...This presumably catches out a lot of people who don't realise that you can click on free delivery....I appreciate the paid for may be quicker but I would always be happy to wait an extra day or so for a free delivery...
This is why I am very careful when I buy online. You can be hooked in by a very low price- only to find carriage etc adds a silly amount.
I bought coffee from Amazon in October and postage was free. This month it is £5.99.
I was about to buy a small item last night from Amazon, I was sure it said free delivery, when I got to the checkout it was charging me £1.35, not expensive I know, but the item was a small sugarcraft cutter which only cost about that much!...........I didn't buy it!.......
i ordered two pairs of boots from clarks on-line. i could have paid over £5 for next day deliver but chose not to pay anything to have them delivered within 7 days. they arrived at 8am the next day.
Would the combined weight of the items have been more than 2kgs? If so then you might find the postage cheaper to order in two lots.
If some of the items you were buying were from different marketplace sellers you would have had to pay separate postage for each item.
I came to buy an item yesterday which said free delivery, but when I got to the last stage at checkout it had added a delivery charge. However you were given the choice to box tick and revert it to the free delivery option...........did you do this?
Here's a good one from Amazon.

Postage is about 2.5 times the real value of the item and where do they get that price from? Surprise surprise, it's in stock.
eh? postage is about a ninth of the value of the product.
I meant the real value of the product not what they are charging.
I think the entire system of carriage to Ireland should be looked at, the whole thing is a rip off. I checked an item to N Ireland from Sussex, the cost on the mainland, including the Scottish Islands was £5, to N I £11. Worse still, I ordered sanding belts from a well known supplier in England. Cost of belts were £8 for 5, carriage to N I, £13. Out of interest I weighed the belts and packaging and checked sending that weight to England, according to my local post office, £4-50.I've tried to find out why but suppliers blame carriage operators and they blame the suppliers.
oh okay d97................I can't find it sold anywhere else to compare the price.
The prices on that seller's page that D97 linked to are outrageous!

How do they get away with listing these really high prices? I bet they don't sell much.
Amazon offer free delivery on lots of stuff but their order page now defaults to paid delivery; you have to tick the free delivery slot. No big deal, just check the price shown at each step.

Jno, I think you are correct. I went back to the site and deleted some of my items and hey presto there was no delivery charge on items i kept. It would appear that they only charge for items which have to be delivered and sold by a company that is separate from Amazon. If items are "fulfilled" by Amazon its ok.
I found by checking the small print it makes it very clear what you can get free delivery for, but make sure of your basket before you get to last page. Amazon are very good pricewise especially if you get the super saver delivery.

I guess that if an item described on a webpage can easily be assumed to have free delivery and there is a delivery charge at the checkout, you are entitled to cancel or just close your browser. Surely any misleading advertising is covered by consumer rights!
