Secretarial Work Non Existent ?
6 Answers
When I was younger there were always lots of jobs for audio secretaries in the local and national newspapers. Now and then when I am at work, just out of curiousity, I scan the local newspaper columns seeing what is about. And people don't seem to be hiring audio secretaries any more, or at least not like they used to. Do bosses do their own typing now? And emails instead of letters I presume. I have changed direction completely now and work in a shop, by the way

It's that kind of skill I'm very glad I've always had as it has been a godsend in times when I've needed to bridge a gap between jobs and during the recession. I've always found work quite quickly through temping agencies.
A lot of law firms still employ secretaries, some of the larger ones have specialist document production units. There was a buzz about outsourcing a while back, sending work abroad via digital systems for it to be typed and emailed back far cheaper than employing secretaries here.
I've varied lawyer wise, I've had secretaries and have done all my own work at different times. I'm still yet to find a secretary to out typingspeed me though :)
