I have bought a bottle of special liquid which is supposed to make my towels soft and fluffy if washed in it. However it doesn't appear to work, the towels are hardly any different after washing. How do hotels, etc., manage to get their towels soft and fluffy, considering how often they have to be washed?
I agree with tumble drying but if you don't have one, use fabric conditioner (the cheap ones are not much good ) then if it's a nice breezy day, hang them outside as they seem softer than if you dry them indoors.
I don't have a drier and no where to dry washing outside one other key is rinsing really really well as detergent buildup is one of the things that makes them hard
When you wash towels there is a build up of soap residue and one way of keeping your towels soft & fluffy is to wash occasionally without any soap and certainly no softener. You will be amazed how much soap lather there is in the rinse.
