I am very interested in writing and have always wanted to write a book. I would like to study with the Writers Bureau as advertised on the TV but unfortunately it is beyond my financial means. Does anyone know of a more reasonable, worthwhile alternative that would help me to write my book?

Most towns and cities have a writers group you could join and the subscription should be very cheap. You could also check to see if there are any part time/evening courses in creative writing in your area. Again, these don't cost an arm and a leg. You should be able to find aout about both of the above at your local library.

There are loads of books on the subject of writing. Check your library to see what they have in stock. You could also have a look in a large bookshop  and if you don't have the funds to buy, jot down the title, author and ISBN number and ask your library to order it for you. (My local library charge 50p for this service.) The Writer & Artistes Yearbook is invaluable for info about submitting material. I can also recommend a book called Three Rules For Writing A Novel by William Noble.

I have spoken to people who have 'studied' with organisations like the one you mention, and my opinion is that they are a waste of space. You pay them a fortune and they will praise your work to the skies to keep you as a customer.

Believe in yourself and your work and persevere!

Set yourself a target everyday. Make yourself a nice workspace. Geta friend to agree to read what you have done every week, to spur you on. Make sure that you are writing this for YOU because getting anything published is very very hard.

It will be an amazing achievement once you finish. perseverence is the answer- not paying to join a writers club!
