I was given a juicer at the weekend.

a) does anyone use one of these or should I just confine it to the back of the "unused kitchen gadgets" cupboard

b) any other ideas, apart from the ubiquitous orange and grapefruit juices?

Is it suitable for macerating vegetables and other fruits to extract juice or is it a glorified citrus press?

I didn't know there was a difference! It is meant to be able to cope with potatoes (why anyone would want to juice spuds is beyond me), carrots, pineapple, onions, artichokes, fennel etc so I suppose it might be something between the two.
I think it's a waste of time. Juicing you lose the fiber and roughage from the fruits and veges, and you have the task of taking the machine apart and cleaning up. And all the juice from the fruits and veges are not completed extracted.

I use a Vitamix and the fruits are liquified. I highly recommend this machine.
Excellent! Loads more opportunities, I'll dig some out......

Oh you are in for such a fun time (not) cleaning the damn thing.
A society says, you lose all the good fibre and roughage.
Echoed by me, mrs O, we got rid of ours because of all the mess. I juiced things like kiwi and melon and so on - it cost me a fortune in fruit :-(

Oh crap!!!

You see I feel ever so slightly obliged to try it seeing as it was a gift, but I am not good with "washing up components" and fiddling about with stuff unless they are dishwasher safe.
Is it still boxed? If so, give it to someone you are not particularly fond of as a birthday/Xmas pressie
Don't start then, barmaid, once you have put goop into the thing, you'll never get it out again...

2 Medium beetroot
2 Carrots

4 Large ripe tomatoes
1/4 cucumber
Sprig of mint

Blitz through the juicer and finish with a dash of tabasco and lemon juice.
sell it on eBay....
Bugger....I wasn't quick enough you've all talked Barmaid out of getting the damn thin out of the box.

I hadn't even got to my best recipe!
Bruised sprig of mint?
Do you kick it or just give it a mild punch?

I grip it firmly in my fist and squeeze very tightly.....

lmao Mrs O. I just had to explain my outburst of laughter to Mr BM.

Eccles, they sound nice, thank you. I am going to give it a whizz and see how long it takes for me to swear at it and then put it on ebay...... I've got some oranges so I'll try for freshly squeezed juice in the morning.

(It's not boxed, it's second hand, after some of the posts above I think I know why it got given away.)

Orange juice works really nice with beetroot and a few gratings of fresh ginger.

Give it a go.....you will give up but at least you've tried!
