White Wooden Furniture

I  am thinking of buying painted wood bedside tables for a newly furnished bedroom together with other bedroom furniture (dressing table etc).  I quite like the French style in fashion at the moment but not the new white ones that seem to be everythere (including eBay) although I do like 'shabby chic'.    Where would anyone say the best/most reasonable place to buy is?  I want real wood, possibly distressed or antique style but cream colour. Thanks!  I am looking online as well as in the shops. (I seem to have two questions in a row here ... )
