hi,

I need some help. I'd like to learn how to play rugby. I would appreciate it if somebody could explain the following (please explain it using a simple language as I am not clued-up).

During a game one of the guys kicked the ball forward, he did not catch it, actually no-one did, the game had to be restarted. I do not understand this move. Is it to restart the game deliberately as he had no support near him, and feared the opposing team might have gain possession of it? I do not have a clue.

Thanks,

Unless you are in the first portion of your half (up to 22 metres from your posts) the ball when kicked must hit touch the ground in play before before going outside the field of play. if in that case it goes straight out without touching the game is restarted from where the ball was kicked, the ball passing to the other side
unless it is from a penalty kick, when it can go straight out. i'll probably think of more in a minute :(
How was the game restarted? Not sure what you are getting at. Did the player kick the ball so it went off the pitch directly?
