Sensible Idea?
Rossett Acre school in Harrogate have given parents the option to allow their 4/5 year old girls to wear jogging bottoms rather than skirts/pinafore dresses to school due to the amount of physical activities the kids engage in.

Is this a good idea or a lowering or standards.
After reading the article, it seems pretty reasonable to me.
By the way - this is pretty funny. The Telegraph accurately reports:
"School criticised for allowing children to wear jogging bottoms"
The Daily Mail however, has:
"Primary school orders girls to wear 'Vicky Pollard'-style jogging bottoms instead of skirts"
Love it...

As usual with these daft right wing articles, it is better to read the last paragraphs first.
// "We therefore advised parents that reception children, both boys and girls, should wear jogging bottoms during the school day.
"This is our preference and therefore it was stated in our school prospectus.
"However, we did state at our recent new starters parent's evening and on our open days for reception children, that if parents preferred to send their child in a dress or skirt, they were at liberty to do so." //
Surely Chris McGovern, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education should be making better use of his time than commenting on daft stuff like this.

I'm thinking that 3/4 year olds probably do more physical activities than older kids, and therefore it probably makes more sense for them to wear casual trackie bottoms rather than trousers...otherwise they would have to bring a change to school. Wouldn't kids of that age wearing trousers to play would go through quite a few pairs in a school year?
Actually I agree the tots would all be better off in jogging bottoms or shorts (in this weather)
I hate seeing little children in formal looking uniforms (or little boys in suits at weddings for that matter). Kids need to be comfortable whatever age they are, comfort is condusive to learning, and most school uniforms are not comfortable
