Does anyone know where one might buy braces with genuinely powerful clips that will hold anything up and don't snap open when you least want/expect ?

biker (motorbike) braces are good, look on ebay
Know what you mean. I had the same problem and found extra strong clip ones at a sort of ex-army cum farmer supply shop. A bit pricey, but worth it.

Thanks for the replies, guys. That from Buenchico looks just what I want. If they're three-quarters as effective as the retailer claims, they'll do fine. If not, I'll be back on e-bay. Thanks again.
I don't shop there much these days as their measurements on trousers etc are often wrong - but recently got a good pair of clip braces at a Marks and Spencer "outlet".
What "progess-minded idiot" got rid of buttons and loop-link braces. I don't suppose they use trousers and braces in the far east where all our clothes are made! Besides buttons and sowing them on costs money so to hell with the customer.
Even belts have to be tried, as they come in various waist lengths.

Buenchico, just to let you know I ordered my braces yesterday after seeing your post and they arrived at lunchtime today from deepest Wales. Can this be the UK? Thank you doubly!
Well done Buenchico and normchuch.
I have noted Buenchico's link - thank you both.
