Ocado...opinions Please

Does anyone use Ocado? How does it compare with other on-line supermarkets?

personally i think it's great, and i have deliveries from them. The delivery drivers are always very polite, well dressed and willing to help. The offers are always good and tend to be on things i actually want. You can get things that you can't get from other supermarkets too. They don't let you order anything that wont be in stock, so minimal substitution (and on the occasions where i have had a sub, it's been an intelligent one)

Also, i have a great deal on the delivery - i pay 2.99 a month, and can get "free" delivery between mon-thurs. If this kind of thing matters to you, you can also get a "green" delivery (whereby you pick a timeslot when they will already be nearby delivering to someone else. they also do slots on the 1/2 hour and really late and early

I'm confused. Who exactly owns Ocado? I currently shop online with Waitrose, but having looked on the Ocado website (which I thought was just another branch of Waitrose) they have much more of the Ecover products which I regularly buy.
So where do the items come from? If I placed an order on Ocado, would it just go through my local Waitrose?

I switched, after using Tesco for 6/7 years, because they have SO much more choice when it comes to organic and eco-friendly/natural products - which have made a HUGE improvement on my daughters eczema.
I find their delivery is much better, in terms of friendliness, cost (Tesco's delivery is sometimes £5!!) and how they are presented. They are also good when it comes to substitues - unlike Tesco who appear to be absolutely clueless!
Much much better and I will never switch back.

Stopped using them when it was mentioned they might be delivering for Morrisons as well as Waitrose,
Don't want to give the wrong impression to the neighbours!

Thanks for all the VERY helpful answers. Several have confirmed my own impression that Ocada deals in real food,and there is lots of choice. I had a browse at their site the other day...che led out a few things I use regularly. They had so many varieties of TOTAL yogurt-I was quite impressed. I've put off switching to online for my groceries,but this may convince me.

Thanks for asking this question Pasta. I might switch to Ocado after reading this as I've been getting Tesco deliveries for years now and its gone down hill a lot.

Hey babysham, i think ocado is a brand in itself, although they do stock waitrose products. They have a Warehouses and the shopping comes straight from there, which is why there are little substitutions - they know exactly what they have in stock, and are not subject to people wandering past and picking things off their shelves

tiggerblue, I agree Tesco has gone off - not necessarily with the delivery but with availability of goods. for instance Mr Q and I like Linda Macartney mozarilla burgers which I know I can buy in the store (the same one which my order comes from) but they are not on the website. When I queried this with Tesco they said they couldn't put everything single thing on line - very disappointed indeed! might switch to Sainsburys but they are a bit more expensive on the delivery side.

some of Tesco's substitutes leave me puzzled Quizzy. I ordered some boys pull up pants and I ended up getting girls pull up pants as substitutes. It probably doesn't make a difference whether they are girls or boys in principle but I thought it was an odd substitute. They could have just said that that there was no substitute and left it at that.

I find it very odd that tesco would say they can't put everything online. Shouldn't it be the opposite...online is where you have the most choice as stores can't stock all items.

Thanks bednobs, I understand now. In fact, I have this evening done my shop on the Ocado website. They have *so* much choice!

Can I second the thanks for posting this, Pasta. I've heard of Ocado, but never even looked on their website. So glad I did - delivery was free and there's a voucher code for £10 off your first shop too. Brill!
I'm just wondering who will delivery it though, as I don't think I've ever seen an Acado van around here, just Waitrose.

With regards to the Tesco substitutes, they are absolutely ridiculous. I ordered corriander, and got parsley, a shampoo and conditioner and got two conditioners, and chicken breasts substituted for pork chops!!
The worst has to be Asda though, I ordered from them once (and only once!) and my 'Happy Birthday Sister" card got substituted for "Happy Birthday Brother" - I kid you not. I'm convinced the pickers do it for a laugh.
