Does anyone know where I can get cheap jam jars on the high street? I don`t want Kilner jars. I know Lakeland sell them (with the lids separately - what a con) but I wondered if anywhere else has them.

Thanks Frank. They are exactly what I need but unfortunately, there isn`t a Dunelm within miles of here.
You can order them online
The Range is another place that has them, perhaps there's one nearer to you.
If you have a local freegle or freecycle, put up a request on their website.
the Wyevale group of garden centres have them in their kitchen dept.

Last time I was preserving, I found it cheaper to get the nastiest cheapest ready sauces from netto, check away the contents and re-use the jars and lids. I felt ashamed at the implied waste but it simply worked out chepaer than buying new screw-top jars.
I'd follow Mosaic's route but I certainly wouldn't simply discard the jam. I really like this stuff!

(Try it as a component of cream teas; it's lovely!)
Exactly and even cheap pasta sauces can be frozen down in portions and then tarted up at a later date.
Sometimes charity shops have empty jars complete with lids, if they come without, you can just buy lids at Lakeland .
I had the same problem, then I thought about local bee-keepers who'd need jars for their honey. A phone call later and I was told of a hardware shop in the next village that stocked them..
Do you belong to the local Freecycle group, I have both given and received jars on there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Freecycle is a good idea but I wanted them this afternoon. The Kilner ones have split lids and claim that they can only be used twice then you have to buy more lids (another catchpenny). Eventually, I found them in Clas Ohlson.
