all i had done was loaded aol software on and downloaded all the updates for xp on it.

my partner has just took it back wanting his money back but they say they will have a look at it and if its our fault then we have to keep it and pay a 35 charge for looking at it ?

also it was supposed to have norton internet security on it for 3 months but that also expired???

any ideas about what to do next?

any help would be appriciated thanks

Remind the company of its responsibility under the Sale Of Goods Act. if you have a receipt, and the item is faulty, you are entitled to a refund, or a replacement, your choice. If they refuse, ask them to put their reasons in writing, and pop round to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and discuss your next move. Shysters!
As well as the CAB, there is the Trading Standards Department of your local council.  Sometimes the mere mention of that department works wonders.

Definitely go to/phone TRADING STANDARDS... NOW!

There is something to do with you having proof you've got back to the retailer and complained within 6(?) days, i think, as i had this sort of problem with my tumble dryer.

T.Standards were wonderful and it got sorted very quickly after that.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!
