I'm quite intrigued at the "quick & dirty" tutorial :)

Habdashery shops will do them and you tend to get packs for kids in places like The Works in the craft section but they tend to be smaller ones.

Primark have very cheap hats from £1 so you could always get one and snip the bobble off.
