Waxed Jackets

I saw a nice long coat this morning, it is not a normal material, it seems to be waxed and they are very waterproof, costing approx £200 in the sale. However my husband says they make you sweat. Is that the case?

I've got both Drizabone and Barbour. They both have breath holes but neither could be classed as breathable.

The long ones are riding coats.....what do you want yours for?

I,ve worn Waxed Jackets for years, never found one that's made me sweat.

Some makes are breathable. A long coat could also be a drover's coat.

You need to look at the lining too, and the description - some cheap waxed coats a while ago could be sweaty, most aren't now. I've got a riding raincoat - it's not waxed but it's long with a cape, brilliant for when it's chucking it down and I'm waiting at the bus stop.

Bought MrF one of the long riding ones, for when he goes out on his buggy in the rain.
He said it's warm, but doesn't make him sweat at all.

If you really want it, you need to inspect it first. There are really good waxed jackets that are breathable, but that depends on the material and lining. If it's a good fit and the make is good, you won't sweat.

no, if it's a Barbour it will keep you warm and very dry.

Barbour every time, most others are cheap imitations. You get what you pay for with a waxed jacket.

if its just to wander around the shops don't bother, if its to go walking around the countryside, walking in the hills and dales, then spend the money, they last for ages.

I've got a long length Barbour - and no, they don't make you sweat. Cheap imitations might though.

I've just bought my third Barbour in forty years. They last along time. They are warm but don't make you sweat.
