Capstan Knitting Wool

I have an old knitting pattern which I always liked but the wool required is Patons Capstan. I wondered if anyone out there knows what the equivalent in thinkness this would be for todays wool as obviously this wool is no longer available.

It was an Aran weight yarn.

I did one just lately and used arran came out ok. Some arrans quite thin buy a good wool thicker than double knitting will be fine. Roughly 5 stitches to the inch on a 4mm needle.

Capstan was the trade name for a certain type of Aran yarn....see what the tension is on the pattern...then compare it with tension on wool band, most yarns put tension eg size needles and number of stitches to 4 inches...good luck
