I put an item on Ebay that I had made and it was bought by a lady in N. Ireland. Since then she has been in touch and ordered more. I told her I would be away for a couple of weeks when I went in hospital and that I would be in touch when I came home. Yesterday the biggest and most beautiful bouquet of flowers I have ever seen was delivered to my house from this lady. I was moved to tears.
Have you had a similar experience?
Sadly, no. But that sounds a lovely thing she did and it's typical of the warmth and thoughtfulness of most of the people here.
By the way, welcome back, Mrs O.
Since my Mum died January I've been very surprised by the kindness of one of the neighbours, who I didn't really know before hand, she phones me up every week to say she has got a food parcel for me and last weekend asked me how much I wanted to look after her garden for her, think I'll do it for free, she's been so nice. I genuinely didn't know people like this still existed.
Lovely gesture that Mrs O - makes you feel all warm inside doesn't it?
I'd been standing on Todmorden market for about 8 months when I had to go into hospital to have a kidney removed. I knew I was 'tolerated' as a stranger on the market but knew I'd been 'accepted' when I got the most amazing Get Well card signed by ALL the Traders that stood. Still don't know how they found out where to send it.
There are some lovely people around. We don't always notice, because people are busy and tend to keep themselves to themselves. A friend in need......x
An elderly couple on our street got ripped off by cowboy builders, who took their money and scarpered leaving a half done job and a complete mess on the front of their house.
Another self employed builder heard about it and finished the job, taking no money and paying for all the materials himself. It wasn't small job either.
There are good people out there. You just tend not hear as much about them as the b%stards.
Hi Mrs O, glad to see you are back. The charity shop I go to for a couple of hours a week is only staffed by s two volunteers and we were bemoaning the fact that our friends on the shift before us left us without coffee . A customer overheard and five minutes later returned with a tin of the nice one, we were both touched by her kindness.
Awww, what lovely stories.
There are some kind people out there.
Mr O did an act of kindness last week.
In the dead of night he was driving across the N.York moors and came across a young man on his last legs pushing a fold up bike. The poor kid had had to deliver a car from Whitby to York and then had to get himself home by bike (a distance of 40 miles). Mr O bundled the bike & the young man in the car, wrapped him in a blanket & gave him coffee from his flask and then took him home.
Mine's more about a matter of trust really. A few years ago we were at the Sandringham Craft Fair,it was right at the end of the day. I saw a beautiful hand blown glass vase on a stall run by a young Jordanian man. I had no cash left and he didn't take cards. He offered me his name and address and asked me to post a cheque when I had time. I thanked him and of course posted off a cheque the next day.
