I have got an ipod mini 4gb. I have had it for about 3 months now and have so far not had any problems with it. Its easy to load all your music and to update the ipod. I use my ipod all the time and charge it up about once a week. Before I got my ipod i had heard nothing but bad things about them. Now that I have got my ipod i wouldn't listen these comments.
Hope this has been of some use to you.
I've got an ipod mini too and they are great, I use mine for cycling or if I am out for a walk on my own.  The sound is very clear.  My hubby has one of the newer ones and it stores pictures and is coloured screen etc. but I still prefer my mini one for what I use it for!
I've had 2 now, a 10gb one that I have had for 18 months after buying it in the US, now I have a 40GB Ipod photo. I have not had any problems with either of them, the battery on the first one is still going strong, neither has ever malfunctioned, they are easy to use. Which type you go for depends on how you are going to use it. If it is going to be your main source of music, get one with plenty of memory, if you just want to take it running or to the gym etc, the mini would be fine.

Thanks for all the replies - the've been really helpful.

Boyf has a mini I and I have a creative Zen.  The mini I is good but battery doesn't last long.  Creative Zen is new so at the mo I can't compare but it does have a radio and it looks a bit chunkier (although it's smaller than the mini i).  Plus mini i gets 1000 songs and CZ 2500.  Do you have a John Lewis near you?  They have a good selection of both.  We use ours loads as we comute.

Thanks nuoyg-there is a john Lewis nearby
Sorry pippin, but HAD to reply! Husband bought me a  40gb about two years ago and it's my best present ever. Love it, it's easy to use and cost 75p to download a track from the apple music and 7.99 for an album, can't be bad!
Don't be tempted to buy a small one.  I bought mine for studying foreign vocabulary in the gym, as well as music.  It is 128Mb and cost about 25, but my next one will be much bigger.
Pippin I'm thinking about buying one too.  Did you know that they have just 'adjusted' the range, so that now the ipod photo is just called 'ipod', IE colour screen and photo capabilities are now standard.  THey have dropped a bit in price, too, (195 on amazon for the 20GB), and the battery life is slightly improved (15 hours).  I was hoping that this might mean the black and white ones would be on sale everywhere, but not so far.
I have an ipod mini and after about 6 months the battery started to last for shorter and shorter times between charges, now it barely lasts 3 hours which is terrible.  I don't think I'd buy another ipod.

i know youve had lots of answers but im gonna add another lol, ive had an ipod mini since march and so far its been great, its so easy to use and itunes is fantastic, depending on your computer its quick and is regularly updated by apple. Theres not alot that can possibly go wrong with an ipod so youre safe in that respect. Before you buy one, really think about how much youd use it so you can gauge which one would suit you!
