Yorkshire Rose Jet Cufflinks - Why?

In Whitby they sell Yorkshire Rose jet cufflinks. But the rose is always on the back of the cufflink - usually with a plain jet front.

My question is : why is the rose on the back. The jewellers have been asked but weren't able to say why.

Actually I'm confused. Isn't a Yorkshire rose white, and jet black ?
Maybe it's the only way to get the colours right ;-)

yes - it is but Whitby is famed for its jet. So its merely that that is what it is made out of

Very nice. I think it is just the style the designer choose. I'm sure other styles are probably available with the rose on the front.

Nope - they are all like that like that in Whitby. All the jet shops have the rose on the back. There are silver cufflinks etc with the rose ont he front - just no jet ones x

How would you have jet on the back and silver on the front, unless you mean a plain silver back with the jet carved as a rose, in which case the cost would be astronomical I would imagine.

Fitzer, I did wonder that but I have some very intricate carved jet jewellery. My only thought is that because the jet rose would be delicate it wouldn't necessarily get damaged as a necklace but on the cuffs it could get 'knocked about' a bit. Just hoping someone would actually 'know' why :-)
