we are having a brief respite from the drizzle that has been permeating for the last two weeks, so I asked my husband to put some washing on so that I could get some dried today.

It wa ssomething I did routinely, especially on my days off in the week if I'd worked a weekend. Furthermore, as I was generally the first home it was me who would prepare the evening meal and invariably most times cook it. You tend to crack on when you've got 2 hungry kids also waiting to be fed!
I really don't see such things as chores to be avoided, just part of the general daily routine of running a household.
