Setting Up An Ipad

I have already posted on here about a friend having problems with her ipad due to someone else setting it up and failing to tell her the user names and passwords. Now my sister is planning to get in ipad and i am wondering just how easy it is to set one up from new. she is fairly sure she couldnt do it herself. we bought ours in the usa a few year ago, and the apple shop did all the set up for us, for free. not sure if that happens here. john lewis have the same model for the same price, but with a 3 year guarantee included which is a good deal. however they charge £20 to set it up. I sort of feel that i probably could set it up myself, but wonder if i am missing something important by thinking that i could do this. also, i wonder if it would be easier for the set up to create an apple account in advance - remembering to make a note of the ID's etc of course!! she already has e-mail address, as does her husband so they have an email to attach to the account, and a rescue email. I know how to get the thing connected to the internet, and how to add emails to the mail accounts, so thats a start.

I have never had anyone set anything up for me, always done it myself, take your time and it will be fine. It will speed things up to have Apple ID emails set up already but not essential. Was it an ipad that your friend is having trouble with, i thought it was a laptop?

To be honest they practically set themselves up and it sets up an iTunes account in the process (if you don't have an existing one to link to). Charging £20 to cluck a button seems a bit of a rip off to me. If you've half an ounce of common sense it's easy and if you've a little previous experience of the internet it's even easier still.

I did my own iMac 2 weeks ago. To be honest, if you just read the directions on the screen carefully (take your time) it pretty well sorts itself.

it was an ipad my friend was having trouble with. i agree £20 is a lot to set this up - we have had many laptops, all pc though never apple, and have always done the set up myself. it was just that the girl in the apple shop in the usa was kind enough to do it, this was the first apple product we had bought, and we were on holiday so maybe she thought us old git brits might be a bit useless!!! being very customer orientated in the usa possibly this is always free, but here in the uk who knows. could ring the apple shop they will tell me i expect. i am pretty sure my son set his own son's up but having said that, all the grand kids have ipads and i am fairly sure they would be able to do this with their eyes shut.

Just make sure when you do set it up you make a note of your new Apple email address, the password and so on.

looked at the tutorial, saved it, cant believe it looks so easy, wouldnt dream of paying someone else £20 to do it. and absolutely yes remember the e-mail attached to the apple account, the password and the passwords for this e-mail and the rescue e-mail. as a longstanding user of a pc, and latterly an ipad and iphone, remembering passwords and usernames is basic commonsense. but then again, when setting up something like this for someone else, its also commonsense to make sure they know these and have access somehow to them if they forget. so bad marks to the neighbour who set up my friends ipad, subject of an earlier question, as an IT worker he should have known better

further to this post. my sister has bought her ipad, and I have set it up for her, and it was easy. I synced it with my laptop in order that she has my music library on the new ipad. we have similar tastes in music so that's ok. however, something strange, I attempted to download youtube for her, and the app store had my username on and wanted my password. I set the ipad up in the first place, naturally, using her e-mail. could this be because of using my laptop and connecting it to my iTunes, and if so is there anything I can do.
