2 months ago I bought an item for 150 pounds, at Tescos, it has not been opened and I have proof of purchase, I now wish to exchange it for something worth 170 pounds more, do you think Tescos will refuse, or will I get lucky, thanks

Whilst they would be within their rights to refuse as the goods are not faulty, I firmly believe the way you approach the subject and your manner have a lot to do with any outcome. You could say that you had made a purchase for a Christmas present but when you checked with your grandson you have found he already has one. If you don't try you will never know.

Well done, brilliant outcome.
Also thank you for selecting my answer as best answer.
Always worth a try and often there's a good result - well done.
Very unlikely they'll refuse.
ummmm: wise after the event?
on the whole you'd expect them to swap something for something more expensive, with the buyer paying the difference; but perhaps not if the original item had since become unsaleable (last year's fashion, summer furniture lines or something like that).
