I am interested in buying a ceramic kitchen sink online. Are there any risks involved with buying such an item online in this way? What if it arrives damaged, or what if I am not at home when the deliverers call?

If it arrives damaged, you have all the faff of returning it to the supplier, and proving that it was damaged in transit. If you are not at home, depending on who's delivering it, they'll stick a card through your door and take it back to the depot.
Having asked if there any risks, you have helpfully identified to two key ones yourself.

Thanks. I'll try to find an alternative. It's a pity that most shops sell mostly stainless steel sinks. I live in an area with dreadful limescale.

It explains a lot, yes
I don't think they'd be much difference buying on line than having a DIY store deliver it.
