Hi there I went on line to book a theatre ticket at Edinburgh playhouse for next month and I was horrified to discover at the checkout I was charged a booking fee and transaction fee totalling £7.90 I think that is excessive and grossly unfair and to add insult to injury when I inserted my address and told it to look it up from my postcode my house number was not there despite the property having been built 6 years ago

With online booking you pay that fee for every ticket. So 2 tickets would be double that even though its only one transaction. It is shocking.
crappy isn't it? The way i figure it,they don't have to pay someone to sit there and sell tickets, so in fact by booking online you are saving them money, but they charge you more!
That's the reason I always book by telephone. Totally unfair.
The Edinburgh Playhouse charges a £3.90 booking fee (which is what you would have paid if you'd phoned 0844 871 3014) but they don't sell their tickets directly online. To buy online you have to go through ATG Tickets, who also charge you a £4.00 transaction fee.

As has been suggested above, phone to book or (better still) call in at the box office.
Sounds normal to me
It`s a rip off. It`s not just online booking either. I had the pleasure of queueing for hours in the rain to buy U2 tickets in person at Twickenham and still had to pay a fortune in fees.
