Has anyone paid or received payment by bank transfer on eBay?

I found an article on the internet that said a bank transfer can be used instead of Paypal, providing of course, both buyer and seller do online banking, then looking through eBay's help page, it read as though there are restrictions you can only use it in certain categories for high value items.
