Please tell me - or is it just Cornwall celebrating?
1. Some 60 people were waiting at the M&S gate from the car park side this morning for the doors to open. It was chaos in there with trolley-bumping to rival a Blackpool dodgems rink. I asked the cashier that I know how much his biggest transaction has been - answer £408 yesterday and all food..... What's the biggest you have seen?
2. Sainsbury's was the same this afternoon - the answer to the above "£370 but I believe one of the girls took £630 - in cash too.
3. I was in my coffee shop early and one other customer there, saying he had been in the bakery when a customer came in and asked to pick up the order for 70, yes 70 loaves. Understandable if it was a soup kitchen but, no, 'it's for the family.' Does he think he's Jesus feeding the 5000?
i needed to go get my new specs from supermarket over the road, it was quicker to walk over than drive, its mayhem, i'm in the middle of a retail park, with stupid traffic systems so its gridlock, and then you have to get in and out the car parks.....
Well it was an order, I guess, so the bakers would have planned it. I could understand pasties - my b-i-l's manager got a request for 90 of those for a crew on the 5th largest private yacht in the world, suggesting a crew of circa 60 aboard, the captain, from Newquay, saying that he wanted to give them a taste of Cornwall....
The answer to that one Bazile is that I shop M&S three times a week first thing in the morning, around 8am, so I am a regular - and my spend was £44.75 for the record. Thanks for asking - and my Sainsbury spend (once a week) was 38
And I had a nice parcel waiting for me when I returned, my Siltchelton from Neals Yard had arrived, my one treat to myself this year.
The largest family around here is M&D and 14 children and yes, they are RC. You would never guess their profession - farming and one of Cornwall's most successful bakers.....they have won various County awards for their produce.
A regular one, Bazile, my logic on M&S to be in and out of their asap. Just taken aback and it seemed to be far more 'intense' than last year and there are still two days to go!
