Argos Items Not In Stock

Why do Argos advertise items in their catalogs when none of their stores have the item in Stock. Did anyone else have this experience?

Could it be because the advertising worked and they sold out?

I guess that the catalogues went to print at a time when they did have stock.

Internet should be up to date.

I always check stock online and reserve for pick up, saves wasted time and journeys.

You can usually check online which " local" stores have an item in stock...say in a 15-25 mile radius.

Are some items available on-line only?

The catalogs are printed months in advance, there is a 'check' availability link on the order page.

The items in their catalogue aren't being advertised...they are simply being presented and I can understand that certain items may no longer be available several months after the catalogues are printed.
However, if items being actively promoted (on TV say) were not available in store/online...I'd complain LOUDLY!
