If you buy in foreign currency and are charged a foreign transaction fee on the purchase (i.e. a currency conversion charge) then, yes, if the transaction is reversed by refund through the card you will also get the foreign transaction fee refunded - at least that is what my card provider does. In fact, a partial refund of the purchase price also results in a partial/proportionate refund of the foreign transaction fee.
I think that depends on why you want the refund. If its under your rights as a purchaser...so not as described, broken and so on they yes I would expect to receive back all that I had spent including charges. If its a return because it does not fit/just didn’t like and so on then I would not expect a transaction charge refund.
thanks guys. I'm so shocked how much credit card company's make now. I thought they only made their money though their fees to the card holders, but that's only the tip of the iceberg isn't it
it was a car insurance company. long story short, my friend paid the fee as i put it on a card that rewards you when you spend on it. At the time we thought it was a good idea, but i think the rewards are gonna work out to be less than the charge. never mind, live and learn
i know peter - i love dropping in the credit card protection act when i am in the middle of trying to get a refund if something is faulty. They soon change their tune when they know i can get a refund from them
i was only charged 0.5% which wasn't too bad
