Gumtree Advice Please

We sold a bike on Gumtree 4 weeks ago now the chap is saying he wants his money back (despite him saying, by text, just after he bought it how pleased he was with it)
Is he entitled to a refund, will Gumtree want to get involved in a dispute over it?

Assuming you are a private seller, he is only entitled to his money back if the bike was not as described.

Gumtree is only a notice board and will not get involved.

Why does he want his money back?

jackthehat - It's an electric bike and he's been tooing and froing since he got it. He said he'd had it 'looked at' and it needed a new sensor, Mr M offered to pay half for this which was £50, he then rang to say sensor is now £70, Mr M said fine and offered £35. Now he wants a full refund of £200. Money is long gone and will be hard for us to find but is he entitled to it? If he is we'll have to find it. How do we know he's not damaged it? Life's never easy is it?

assuming he bought it "as seen" , then tough. tell him to get on his bike...

HC, is correct.If the bike was fit for purpose at point of sale he has no claim.Don't pay.

How long has he had it?
Not that it really matters.......He's chancing his arm. He could have done anything to it whilst it's been in his possession.

Just (as politely as you are inclined) tell him that not only will you not be refunding his £200 but you are no longer going to enter into any further talks with him on the matter.

You might have to put your foot down with a firm hand but don't let him try to hoodwink you, or bother you. :o)

He's had the bike for 4 weeks, he went on a test run before he paid for it and it went round our road like a rocket which is why we can't understand why the problem.

Like I say, he could have fallen off it, dinked it.....whatever.
But after 4 weeks, I say whatever has gone wrong with it is his problem NOT yours. xx

Assuming you've received the money, you're in pole position here. If you sold it as described, it's now his and the money is now yours. Keep it that way.

do not enter into any more correspondence in the matter ..he was happy then even tested it..end of the matter..no more contact..he's trying it on

Just advise the person that if he / she decides to take the matter Further you have his comment after sale ( Text ) on your phone, as said, it's now his / her problem.
