After Shave

I have had a full face beard for the last 47 years, and always use aftershave when going out, and occasionally every day.

Why call it aftershave ,why not call it " The stuff you put on your face to stop the bleeding and for a few minutes till you get outta the bath smells okay but don't have sting .
