Walked through my local Primark today. I have never bought anything before from Primark as I find it irritating but decided that I wanted some more socks as I wanderer through.

I bought a pack of five black socks for £1.70!

How do they do that? I normally pay at least eight pounds for three pairs of socks.

They pay people in sweatshops in India to produce them. To be fair, so do other companies but they charge more money so make more profit
Slave labour making them (apparently) plus they will fall apart very quickly. Personally I love to grab an armful of stuff in Primark for about £20 but I see their stuff as temporary.
There are socks and there are socks....

Some I bought from M&S are still in use after 30+ years.
I have bought socks in Primark in the past & they last as long as much dearer one's. Their underwear (including shorts type knickers) are excellent. Personally I don't go a bundle on their jumpers but maybe that is just me
But then again, Prudie, all things must pass.
They can't be beaten on price, anywhere. You can't buy on-line because they want you to get inside their shop so you can see the great prices, then buy, buy, buy.

I've always found their quality pretty good, too.
Eerrr...cheap labour?
I always get socks in tkmaxx...3 pairs of Pringles socks for 4.99. They last forever.
I've often bought seam free camisoles, and stretchy long-sleeved t-shirts in Primark that last ages.
Yes they do Douglas, until they become retro.

So, not an ethical shop?

the reason they are so cheap is that the makers are on piece work

normally about 17 pence a foot
Read up on Primark before you decide, Tilly.......they claim to work well with partners and organisations in third world countries.

Panorama did a programme showing them using child labour but this was proved to have been faked by the freelance journalist hired by the BBC.

He purchased T shirts from a supplier and then got boys in a backstreet workshop to pretend they were working on them for Primark whilst he filmed.....

Read and decide.......x

Happy to help. Next please. :)

Thank you, Gness. x

One of the reasons I don't shop there is that it's so untidy. I get about six feet into the shop and think, 'I can't stand this!' and then I walk out again!

What a tip!
Have a read Tilly. I like primark for their PJ's, socks.

Thank you, Mazie. That makes me feel better about my new socks. :-)
Excellent link, Mazie....it's easy to assume a cheap store will be using slave/child labour but that's not always the case.
Primark was the first UK store to sign up to the Bangladeshi Accord.....

Having said that...Zambi Sugar, connected to Primark, was accused of ripping off one of the poorest countries in the world by non payment of taxes....

So....as I say...for ethical shopping.....read and decide.....xx
Primark are great. I walk in a week before my holiday and leave with a bag full of goodies.

I read a review about there makeup range so I bought some foundation. Best foundation I've ever bought.
17p a foot !
