I bought a vacumn cleaner in January '05 and it has stopped working. unfortunately, the shop where I bought it from has closed it's store nad the nearest other one to me is a 30 minute drive away. I contacted them and they said that they would give me the number of the manafacturer so I could contact them and arrange somebody to come out and repair it, but I want a new one. surely if something breaks after such a short time it's no good to start off with? How do I stand legally? Am I entitled to a brand new one/and or a full refund, or do I have to accept them coming out to repair this one? Thanks, bunny

Sorry, but you can't insist upon a new vacuum cleaner.

This is from the Office of Fair Trading website:
"Once you have, in the legal sense, 'accepted' goods you lose your right to a full refund. You can only claim reasonable compensation. Normally you have to accept an offer to put the goods right or the cost of a repair. But if the faults can't be put right you are entitled to appropriate compensation which, in many cases, may be the cost of buying an alternative".

Sorry Chris, but you are incorrect. What you have said is correct if there is nothing wrong with the product.

Bunnykinz says that they vacuum has gone wrong. This means that she is entitled to a money back and does not have to take a replacement or repair.
