A few days ago, I had an hour to waste, waiting for a Doctor's appointment, so I thought I would browse in town centre shops, After a few minds, I wondered who really uses the big High Street names anymore !
W H Smith seemed to full of high prices and frippery. I bought my Guardian there but at the till, someone tried to sell me a chocolate bar I didn't want.
Boots just seemed to be an irrelevance....there was nothing in there that I couldn't have bought from any Supermarket and bought more cheaply.
Burtons seemed to full of tat !
Do many many people drive into their town centres to use shops like this anymore ?
I'd always go into WHSmiths for their range of magazines and stationery. They used to sell records too, if I remember correctly. Their book dept is rubbish now compared to other chains and independents. If I need things from somewhere like Boots I look in the local pharmacy or buy online. I know I'm part of the death of our High Streets, but I really don't want to...
Mikey...I have to disagree, there can be a huge difference in brands. I suppose if you have very short hair it wouldn't make much difference but when you have longer hair it really does. They don't necessarily have to be more expensive.
Minty....I am a fairly new convert to Home Bargains, and I think its wonderful ! We have 2 very close to home and they are always packed. One of them is opposite a lovely new Lidl, so its shopping heaven for me.
Yes, mikey. I've noticed when I go to neighbouring towns for any reason. Convenient parking is often difficult to find and always costs an arm and a leg.
