Plug In Timer For A Dishwasher
11 Answers
Hi
We have gone onto economy 7 (l have an electric car) but am really struggling to get a plug in timer that will work with the dishwasher.
We have a hotpoint dishwasher probably over 10 years old, but works perfectly.
I have tried about 6 different timers, some even say dishwasher on the list of suitable products it can be used for. This is what happens
The timer will work once and not again
The timer doesn't work at all.
It mystifies our electrician too.
I don't mind spending a little more if anyone knows of a timer that will definitely work, however buying a new dishwasher with a built in timer would not be cost effective at this juncture.
I would really appreciate any advice, other than do the washing up yourself LOL!
Thank you
Gill

Both my daughter and her mother-in-law have had dishwashers catch fire. The reason is that the wiring for the switches, always on the door, not the casing, is constantly flexed when opening and closing the door. I would never run my dishwasher when I wasn't near enough to hear my smoke alarm go off.
valid point by bhg but presumably you want to run it night when you are home? We use timers a lot for lights etc when on holidy and have found the newer flashy electronic ones break all the time and are unreliable. The old manual type (similar to what used to be on old central heating systems) that rotate and hit switches are much more reliable. Have you tried one of those?
