Not sure if this is the correct category.. but here goes. I'm giving my daughters bedroom a good old Spring clean and have come across a Steiff Bear on top of her bookcase covered in dust. These bears were presents for the grandchildren from my mum about 20 years ago, and I still have the box in the loft somewhere. I was wondering a) how to clean it, and b) whether to put it back on display (she no longer lives here but it's still her room when she comes home), or to squirrel it away in the box in the attic.... Any advise greatly appreciated..

If its dusty then a good brush over or a run over with the vaccuum using the upholstery brush should sort it. as to whether you display it, well do you like it? Modern mass produced Steiffs (yellow ear tag) don't make mega bucks but if its a limited edition (white ear tag) it might be worth investigating and maybe keeping as a (small) investment. It needs to be a Steiff from Steiff and not one made for "collectible" firms like Franklin Mint.

>>>Don't use a hoover.

Hoover is a brand name - they also make Irons, Washing Machines, Dishwashers etc

I think you mean vacuum cleaner
spath I have over 200 bears of varying ages and brands and they all get vaccuumed. Its stupid to try to remove dry dust with a damp cloth.
I agree, vacuum first and then damp flannel if necessary.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I gave her a going over with the vacuum nozzle, then an airing in the basket on my bike whilst cycling to the shops.. Finally, a quick dusting with some dry shampoo to make her smell nice, and bingo... as good as new(ish). Thanks again... :-)
