It's rife, RIFE I tells ya.
'This is an apparently isolated incident by a person with a history of psychiatric disorders,' said police investigator Bernard Marchal.

'However, we cannot ruled out the possibility that she was radicalised.'

Seems they are keeping their options open.

Very worrying whether it's terrorism or someone with mental illness copying terrorists.

There is nothing in the report that tells us whether police investigator Bernard Marchal is a luvvie liberal.
They shouldn't report the facts as they know them, that would be better.
shouldn't or should Lynne?
They shouldn't report the facts as they know them

I seriously think that is what's happening.
'Shouldn't' - all it does is cause comments similar to this.

If a person has a history of mental illness, they shouldn't mention it.

Just arrest the person, deal with the crime and that's that.

There does seem to be a regrettable amount of the

"Surely only a mentally ill person could do this - therefore this person must be mentally ill"

circular argument going on these days (and not just relating to possible/probable terrorist incidents).
I am unsure of the point you are making here YMB.

The woman apparently has a history of mental illness.

She has behaved in a way which may indicate terrorist sympathies.

These two circumstances may or may not be connected.

How does that lead to the Establishment thinking 'we were all born yesterday', or the 'luvie Libs' being involved - ?

It must be true, it's in the Daily Mail.
'A history of mental illness'. What a cop-out. Anything but admit they are a bunch of religious murdering fanatics. If anyone approaches me waving a knife and shouting 'Allahu Akbar' it won't be the men in white coats I'll be calling.
// do the Establishment think we were all born yesterday? //

Someone with a history of mental disorder does something that is characteristic of their condition.
There are unconfirmed reports she said something in muslimese.
Anyhow, there is a double standard. If an English looney goes potty, they have a mental condition, and if a muslim one does, it is terrorism. No it isn’t.
So someone approaches you waving a weapon and shouting 'Allahu Akbar' and you immediately think, 'That poor lady has mental health problems'? I don't think so. My only concern is that she was not shot dead on the spot.
My concern is purely for those injured - the authorities need to know all the history, not me.
More excuses - and all in the futile quest for social cohesion – but it works with some so par for the course.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Contrary to popular belief, the powers that be can fool some of the people all of time.
Enabling probably covers it.

Lucky for you that you can see through it whereas others are too dumb.

We won't know whether it's a cop out until (if) the facts are established.

The impacts of mental illness are certainly very worrying, just as is the frequency of terror attacks.

Like Mamyalynne I'm not sure why the authorities said anything at this stage other than " someone has been arrested"- although i realise some feel the need to know the name or skin colour too
Mental illness ... I don't think anyone who participates in acts of terror doesn't have some degree of disorder, either in terms of low self esteem and needing approval or sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies. The difference is when they go off on one the consequences are usually far more newsworthy.
Would it make the news if a Jewish psychiatric patient tried to kill a tall blonde nurse because she thought she was a German. It is scale, situation, and perceived threat.. Put all three together and you have a recipe for disaster.
she's arrived, so better go and get the coffee.....have a good one all
