We were out last night for food and someone started a discussion about which 12 famous people/ celebrities/ historical figures /people who are known for something, alive or dead, (language being no barrier) you'd invite to a dinner party. What are yours, (and why if not obvious)?
I'd like to invite hundreds of people to be honest and mine have changed since last night but today they are:-
1. Salvadore Dali (I own so many Dali prints it's absurd, and his own parties were legend)
2. Ted Hughes (I'm writing a screenplay about him)
3. Oliver Reed (Reliably informed he was the most outrageously amusing *** in humanity)
4. Dorothy Parker (hilarious)
5. Bill Hicks (ditto)
6. Dali Lama (deep and hilarious)
7. Oscar Wilde (clever and hilarious)
8. Leonard Cohen (not hilarious but insightful and I'm such a fangurl)
9. Jo Brand (love her deadpan Englishness)
10. William Shakespeare ( well obviously, known party lad and nice way with words)
11. Victoria Coran ( so clever, so beautiful, so doesn't give a damn)
12. Kathy Burke ( super talented and she is the epitomy of not giving a stuff)
I have never actually attended a dinner party, per se (Percy who?), but if i were to organise one, it would have to be a memorable one. So, my guest list would be; Theresa May and Bojo Roxanne Pallett and Ryan Thomas Duchess of Sussex and her step sis (should that be sepsis?) Donald Trump and Bob Woodward Colleen Nolan and Kim Woodburn And a dinner party wouldn't be...
I did think about doing an Aber's one but I didn't want to offend anyone or make anyone feel left out, plus tbh I'd like to have all the Abers together at one massive argumentative feast. x
I'd definitely have Bill Hicks as well (3rd mention for him today - twice from me!), mainly because I didn't get the chance to see him live, as I became aware of him shortly before he passed away.
Bruce Lee. I don't think I'd need another 10 guests. Those two would do.
Yes, but we might have to improve the balance of the genders - Ada Countess Lovelace; Marie Curie; Benazir Bhutto (My sister met her at Oxford); maybe Katherine Johnson (one of the human computers at NASA); maybe Pam Ayres; Billie Jean King
I'd Drop Ted Hughes - my OH met him on the island of Lindisfarne - just a teeny bit creepy, apparently; as well as being just a bit too full of himself.
I love Pam Ayers.
Ted Hughes is there because of the screenplay I'm writing tbh. He fascinates me and I always wondered how someone lived with themselves after two partners killed themselves, and their child on one instance. Whether his treatment of them had anything to play in that in debatable but he can't have had a nice life no matter what.
Hi klav, @ 13:13, no offence, I did read the flipping question, from end to end, I just picked out 'so called' Celebrities (Luvvies) as a pet aversion.
Actually YMB I'd love to be a fly on the wall at yours, I love a good row.x
Well yes pointless celebrities are annoying I agree Baldric (and actors are usually called luvvies- massive difference between actors and celebrities thanks every much :). who WOULD you invite was the question :) x
