I have an ongoing serious complaint with Ikea (UK) and now have no other option but to address it with the Managing Director. Does anyone know where I can find out the name and address of the Managing Director of Ikea?

Click onto the "contact us" dept. of their website and say you want to contact the management of Ikea.I don't suppose they will give you a name but they might think you wish to bestow compliments about them so they would give you a clue as to who to address!

Just address your letter as follows:

For the Personal Attention of The Managing Director:
IKEA LIMITED
21 HOLBORN VIADUCT
LONDON
EC1A 2DY

Chris

Its best to get a name.

If you just address a letter to a 'job title' its assumed that the sender has no idea who they need to speak to and is probably junk/advertising mail. Plus it will probaly just be opend by a PA/Secretary. If thats the case the letter would prob be redirected to the customer relations department. When I worked in admin I was told to open letters addressed to 'The Office Manager' and to only pass on the important bits to him.

So what I am saying is that if you use the managing directors name the letter is more likely to arrive at their desk and be opened by them (and hopefully they will be more likely/obligated to take a personal interest in your complaint).

I'm sorry to disagree with Ammy but I work for a large company where the MD gets dozens of complaints sent directly to him (whether by name or job title) every day. However they're addressed, the truth is that they all end up in exactly the same in-tray and they're all opened by his PA. (Even marking the letter as 'Personal' doesn't work because the PA is instructed to ignore this and open the letter anyway). Where it seems that the customer has already been in contact with the Customer Relations department, the PA might seek to resolve the problem or, in a very few cases, actually pass the letter to the MD but well over 95% of all such letters are simply sent straight to the Customer Relations department.

Glad I'm not the only one to experience bad Ikea customer service. Never shopping there again!

oooh there was a thing about contacting Mds on Richard hammonds 5 o colock show yesterday. There is actually a website where, if you pay a few pounds, you can get the home address of the MD of a company. It's all legal and above board, they have to register these details. Not sure what the web address is but try the site for the 5 o clock show:
