Tying Hair Up For Sleeping - It Rips And Breaks Hair - Any Ideas?

I tie my long hair up on top of my head to sleep.

However ive found this sometimes breaks the hair off, presumably when im moving about on the pillow etc.
Ive tied it tight, loose, left the pony tail hanging down, tied in a ball, lower down, further forward etc

ive used a few diff types of band, and tied it in different places - anywhere other than on top of my head, makes it awkward to sleep on.

headbands just fall off or are too tight and annoying.

just finding nothing works as well as a simple band, fairly tightly on top of my head. :/

anyone got any ideas recommendations etc for how or what i can use to keep my hair up and off my face etc

such as a particular type of band, or headband, or even a hat lol

thanks :)

You can buy a silky turban for exactly this situation.
I plait mine.....seems to work for me and gives it a bit of a wave. 2 plaits makes sure that most is off my face and not so tight as to pull any of it out. Simple and easy and cheap!!
I put mine in one of those turbans you can get to wrap around wet hair. I hate sleeping with my hair loose, I once dreamed I was drowning in the sea tangled in a fishing net and woke up tangled in hair!
Get a hair net...
Wow, I don't know any old ladies that wear hairnets any more. I suppose there must be a market for them though if Tesco sells them.

Would it not be really hot though sleeping with a hat or turban?
Does one care where it is when one is asleep and out of it ?
Just push it aside and drop off.
Interesting how different we all are. I always take out any type of hair accessory before sleep and would feel really strange sleeping with my hair tied up. I have thought about it in the very hot months, and once in a stiffling hot hotel room, managed a lose scrunchie and alice band, which stayed in long enough for me to get off to sleep but soon fell out!

thanks all.

hairnets fall off, as i said ...
those nets are for holding curlers, not just loose hair ...
How about a shower cap ?
Many moons ago when I was a long-haired hippy with hair half way down my back I used to use a hair net. Worked a treat.
Hello Joko.. you can get soft material hairbands, you see tv actors etc, wearing them when they get their make up done..that would hold your hair back off your face, and be comfy to sleep in I use one I got mine in Asda.. so I guess you can buy them anywhere !.. hope you get a good nights sleep! I plait mine too, one plait that falls to the front over my left shoulder

i think plaiting it would work - except my hair is not all one length.
im going to try 2 plaits, one on top and one by my neck.

i even have satin pillow cases but things still pull off and dont stay in place.
I use a velvet scrunchie. Do you find even that breaks your hair?
French plait. I usually just leave mine tied up though.
Have a hair cut...pixie crop?
Question Author
havent tried velvet, will loik into that

i do have very fine hair though so i think its probably easy to break.

and no way to the pixie cut! haha :D

ive put a plait in on top now, and its already coming loose at the back, i doubt it will last long in bed.
ill try 2 tonight though
I have a pixie cut and it is no trouble at all. I think your best bet would be to wear an old fashioned ladies' hair net a la Ena Sharples.

Joko - my hair is quite thick and it breaks off.
