What, if any, have you done in the way of panic buying / stockpiling?

I havent, but doing my monthly shop I was restricted in the things I usually buy in large amounts, really annoying I normally buy 10 cartons of uht milk only allowed 5, this means I need to top up later in the month and carry it home. With joint problems I prefer to avoid this. They know people's usual shop if you usually have that amount it's not panic stockpiling.

If things are running low you can’t buy lots of it

Child of 1940's war time. After rationing ended my Mum started a collection of tinned food etc . Cupboard full and if a tin used another replaced it .And I have always done the same .My own daughters think I am silly but I don't care. And no I am not panic buying anything l

It all depends on your perspective.

From my point of view ...

1. I buy 24 loo rolls = I am making prudent provision for the future

2. You (my friend) buy 24 loo rolls = you are stockpiling

3. He (a random third person) buys 24 loo rolls = he is panic buying


We supermarket shop once every 2 or 3 weeks (it's a 55km round trip) - we happen to be off to do a routine shop today - I'll be miffed if we are restricted to less than our usual wine or cheese purchases ...

Nothing, as yet. Although I had to order toilet roll from Amazon, as all our local shops have run out. So I now have a lot more than I planned too.
I am slightly concerned, because we see vulnerable people all day every day, and we have one due an operation, who might need to "self-isolate" after. He needs help himself, but so do others and we are not entirely sure what we should be doing, if that happens...

Our nearest big supermarkets are 10 miles away so I only do a big shop now once a fortnight. OH went shopping last Friday and said loads of toilet rolls stocked in the shops and no empty shelves except for the hand gel/wash and wipes. Maybe we are just a bit more sensible oop north. I've always stocked for a holocaust anyway so could probably feed the village for couple of weeks with what I have in the big freezer in the barn. Our local co-op has a sign up restricting toilet paper and other personal products. They say its not them its head office and no one has cleaned out the shop of anything yet.

I have the same thought with regard to toilet paper.

I bought two large multi-packs of toilet paper yesterday encouraged by the supermarket which had 70% off the second. Obviously that particular scare hasn’t hit this part of Spain yet.

I agree, and I imagine the Government is hoping people do stock their cupboards to cover a short period of isolation, but can’t instruct them to as it would lead to panic buying much more than they need.

in the Tesco near where I work there's been no panic buying of Izal paper - can't think why.

I was going to put some loo rolls on my Asda order, but they've been cleaned out (or wiped clean).
