What Happens If No Deliveries?

Been trying to get an Ocado delivery slot for a week without success.

What happens if we get to ‘the end’ and still no slots?

We’re old, self-isolating, no relations, etc. Do we take a chance and go foraging at local (empty) supermarkets. Used to be workhouses for the likes of us!

10.17 , Good on you shoota , well done.

That's kind, shoota; hopefully we won't have to take you up on it, but it's heartening to hear. Thanks again.

Welcome Allen - or anyone else within sensible travelling distance of Heathrow come to that.

Who does click and collect? (asda? Sainsburys, Morrisons?) It might be a workable compromise for us, as we can still drive to and from local supermarkets.

A
Tesco do click & collect, but you will be lucky to get a slot.
Question Author
Yes, just tried local Asda and Morrisons, and no go. I thought actual supermarkets were getting back to normal, but not yet...
Sainsbury's do priority delivery slots for customers registered with them as vulnerable. I don't know how they police it as I've yet to register, not being desperate yet.
The supermarkets are awaiting a list of vulnerable people from the government.
Question Author
Thanks for the info.

I don't think we're going to be on the government's List, as we're not cancer/transplant/etc patients, just moderately old and sick!

Maybe as supermarkets really DO get back towards normal, their click&collect sides will start functioning again, which as I say, will probably do for us.

I think we can hold out for ten - fourteen days yet, so we'll keep everything crossed.

We had an invitation from Sainsbury's to use their "vulnerable" delivery service. We have only used their delivery service once before (quite a while ago) but we do shop there most weeks. I have no idea how they know our ages - both over 70 but neither otherwise frail.
can you get to Brent Cross from Wembley? I went to Waitrose there this morning and it was no trouble. Open to the old and vulnerable 9-10 every day, not a lot of people there but their shelves nearly full and everyone carefully keeping their distance. (Lots of loo rolls.)

Alternatively there's a mega Tesco by Ikea; their elderly hour is 9-10 Monday Wednesday and Friday. I haven't tried that so I don't know how crowded it gets.

Bednobs, one of the things about shopping in the first hour is that some of the products may have gone by later in the day. This may not be such a big issue now but it was very helpful a week ago.
Question Author
jno: that sounds good, and yes, Brent Cross is only 15 minutes from us. Thanks for the tip!

Panic over.

Ocado said they’d ‘look after’ existing customers and we could have a delivery every seven days, and after confirming this week’s, sure enough we got a slot for a week ahead.

So if this is the pattern for the future, we’ll be fine (as long as Covid-19 keeps away).

Thanks again for all the help.
glad to hear it.
