With the easing, are Ocado drivers going to bring shopping further than front doors?

Being disabled makes it extra (painful) work otherwise.

don't think so, sainsburys only deliver to my door. so i have to bring the goods in myself.
As do Asda. It's a big job for me, up three flights of stairs to my flat with a fortnight's worth of shopping.
Question Author
Well, they’ll be here today, so I’ll let you know if there’s any change.
I use both Tesco and Asda and they carry my shopping up two flights of stairs and leave it at my front door.

Both of them have been really helpful during the crisis.
They brought mine in a fortnight ago.

Fair enough, but today's the day of the Great Easing of Lockdown - so do things change today?

A

Just been on 'chat' with Ocado. Apparently it's no change, there. I have a sneaking feeling that the saving in time etc. of not carrying shopping through the house/flat is something Ocado and other delivery companies will try and hang on to!

A
The rule about not entering another home still stands for any of us.
Difficult for you Allen though.
Allen, I guess any time saved will be spent not in pool halls but in delivering to more people. It does make it tough for those like you, though. Are there any neighbours who could help you take it upstairs or wherever? I've done that for my neighbours upstairs - they're not disabled, they're just never there, and I don't want their juicy plums left on the doorstep.
There is the driver's point of view as well - they may not want to come into what could be a risk area for infection.
Question Author
Yes, all understood - but what does the easing mean? People are encouraged to go back to work, so when will the likes of
ocado encourage deliveries as before? I do understand about the drivers being at risk, but IS lockdown ending or not?

A
Many people have worked all through lockdown , including delivery drivers - the easing mostly refers to meeting outdoors and things like open markets etc.

I too struggle to get my shopping from the door to my kitchen but I totally understand why they are doing it and if the driver had just been in 10 different addresses I wouldn't welcome them coming in my home.

delivery people have been working all along, so I don't think today's easing will make any difference to that. They'll still be concerned about not infecting you, as well as the other way round.

If you're vulnerable, this is for you

One thought for you Allen, most areas have help in the community for those struggling. perhaps they could send someone on delivery day to bring in and unpack your shopping.

I do it bit by bit with a few rests in between.
I couldn't manage it on my own. Fortunately I have a fit OH. So much I can't manage now and I get so frustrated. I was always so independent.
Did they carry the shopping in for you, Allen?
Question Author
No Barry. I went to the door with my trouser leg rolled up (exposing my prosthetic leg!), and asked the driver when they were going to restart carrying it through to the kitchen. "Not yet," he said... He was apologetic, but no more.

allen, you could get a wheeled shopping trolley and wheel your groceries through to the kitchen?
I guess I was just lucky with my driver last time. He did make me stand well away from him, he was wearing a mask and I did see him put fresh gloves on before he handled my shopping
Question Author
Woofgang. “...you could get a wheeled shopping trolley.”

We bought a garden trolley, as it was the only one narrow enough to manoeuvre through our small flat. It helps, but it’s still going to be a relief when the Great Easing actually kicks in.
