Further to all of the above, if you buy an electrical item from overseas it might not be designed to work on the UK's 230 volt electrical system. There's nothing in the description to indicate what supply voltage is required to use it. (The address used to register the domain name is simply 'Guangdong, China').
When you were but a nipper, JD33, the UK's supply voltage was, indeed, 240V. In reality it still is but we now call it 230V. Confused? See here:
