Goalkeepers Jerseys
9 Answers
Not so many years ago goalkeepers jerseys had to be different to their teams or their opponents outfield colours. But it seems to me,looking at the tv coverage, that many teams colours are not very distinguishable between goalies and outfield players.Am I on my own with this ?

I can't believe that any professional referee would ever permit a goalkeeper to wear a shirt that couldn't readily be distinguished from those of both his fellow team players and of his opponents.
It's not just a 'formality'. When a referee (or one of his assistants) is looking across a crowded goal area, trying to spot a possible off-side infringement, he/she sometimes only gets to see just a small patch of a player's shirt (with the rest being obscured by other players), It's vital that the ref can know which player is which.
In my days of refereeing amateur football, I often required goalkeepers to change their shirts prior to kick off. I can't see professional referees being any less diligent.
Perhaps the colour settings on your TV aren't as good as they should be?

I think the Aston Villa goalkeepers jersey is nothing like the outfield players tops.

One of the things that annoys me more and more is when an away team changes their kit when they have no need to. Recently Wolves (gold shirts, black shorts) were at home to Manchester City (light blue shirts, white shorts), but Man City were in a changed strip. There are many other examples, and it happens increasingly often. Yes, I know it's all about selling more shirts, but it's still ridiculous.
