Ok, let me explain.... On the 1st July 2021 Carakeel and myself will be getting married, being atheists we clearly don't want a religious wedding, so, wanting our wedding to be a bit more than the signing of a piece of paper and the legalities, we have decided to have a medieval style Handfasting ceremony after the legal stuff. We we aren't going dressed fully medieval as that would turn into fancy dress and we don't want that. Carakeel has found an amazing dress that will fit in with the style very well but I'm struggling, I want something a bit different, with a hint of medieval but not OTT smart and probably not a 3 piece unless it is required to make it all come together. Help!! We are also having lots of hounds in attendance, mostly Irish Wolfhounds and lots of mead flowing freely to go with the ram roast and the hog roast. :-)

Congratulations, Ratter and Carakeel. To keep it simple I would stick to black trousers and white shirt with fullish sleeves and the nod to medieval in the open fronted tunic with some lovely but simple decoration.
medieval? you want something like this...but this is an american website https://armstreet.com/store/medieval-clothing/woolen-viking-coat-yule-edition
If you only intend to wear it the once, have you got a theatrical hire shop anywhere near you?

Lol Anne, well she has put up with me for 17 years and been engaged for 15 years, I know its all a rush but she knows that she needs to hurry before I get snapped up by a young fair maiden! I think the tweed may be a bit too formal.
My son-in-law wore a similar waistcoat to this one, in suede - it toned beautifully with my Daughter's outfit.

Go Irish kilt white blousy shirt and shoulder sash
Who would wear a kilt with those big woofers around?

Nothing in houndstooth then ;)

A lovely thread, RATTER, well done to you both. I hope you will post a photo after the ceremony.
//erm that isnt mediaeval//sic

Haha it was wannabee Rawalpindi.
Just go as Henry VIII
