The Downside Of Online Shopping
27 Answers
If you buy something in a shop you see the product.
Online you don't, just a picture and description.
All OK if it arrives accordingly, but if it doesn't then the time and hassle to get it sorted is annoying.
This week I have received two packages with parts missing. Furthermore, an order (food) which I booked for February 26th delivery (as offered) they informed me is being delivered next week.
Three in one week which I now need to get sorted out - I am extremely annoyed. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My village Post Office has unfortunately just closed for good, but there were always people in there returning packages they'd bought online.

You've avoided the hassle of driving into town, finding somewhere to park, walking through the pouring rain to the shop that you thought would have the item but hadn't, then walking to another shop in the rain to actually buy it, walking back to your car (again, in the rain), paying an extortionate amount for your car parking and then getting stuck in a traffic jam on your way home before eventually opening the packaging and finding that (say) you've ought the wrong size.
If the above happens, you'll have to repeat most of the same process to get things sorted out and also hope that the shop is actually prepared to offer you a refund or exchange, as (unlike online shopping) you'll have no automatic right to one.
Perhaps online shopping doesn't seem so bad now? ;-)

I once bought an expensive electrical gadget in-store from a well known chain. The box was properly sealed with the security tag intact.
When I got home and opened the box there was no device in the box, just the peripherals. Buying in store isn't always safe and buying online does you more consumer protection.

Recently I've attempted to embrace online grocery shopping - 2 Click and Collect (because i couldn't get a home delivery slot) and yesterday a home delivery from Sainsburys. ALL the orders had items "unavailable" but yesterday's was the worst - I started off with a trolley of groceries costing £135 but when the stuff actually arrived there was £83 worth - all the rest "unavailable" and they weren't even unusual items. Rubbish and I won't even try again - it's so much simpler just to go shopping.
After allowing substitutes on the first order I said "never again". Sainsburys don't charge you for the cheapest - they charge whatever the substituted item costs and then send an e-voucher for the difference - which you can only redeem against your next online shop. i regard this as an absolute con. I don't agree that people are buying more. I'm tempted to blame Brexit.
